We’re thrilled to announce we’ve been chosen as a top honoree in the 2015 class of “Excellence in Education” awards by Modern Salon in its sixth annual program recognizing leadership and best practices among cosmetology schools.

The Institute of Beauty and Wellness was chosen to represent excellence in the category of Beauty Changes Lives, Facilities, The Next Level, and Technology.

Honorees were determined based on key criteria in each category and grouped according to school size or number of locations. Two top honorees were chosen in each category–one individual school location, and a multi-location school organization. Small schools, large schools, chain schools and single units of chain schools are all represented.

Read on for a clip from Owner, Susan’s interview with Modern Salon in regards to our commitment to technology.

Upon admission to The Institute of Beauty and Wellness in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, students receive an iPad with their kit that includes full access to the curriculum 24/7, iAnnotate to make notes and highlight their digital textbook, detailed technical training, step-by-step view and review, an emphasis on body position to promote wellness, scissor handling and texturizing, foundations for future learning and chat/collaboration features.

“The use of technology in the classroom and online curriculum is a critical piece of where we are and where we’re going,” Susan Haise, owner of the institute,” says. “Our goal is to be 100-percent paper free, and we start with the iPad distribution. Textbooks can be opened through iBook, so once they’re downloaded, you don’t even need WiFi to open them.”
