The Insitute of Beauty & Wellness Wear Black

Yes, we wear black. Everyday. Yes, because it looks great on everyone, but there's more behind the why. Admissions Counselor, Deanna shared with us the reasons why we and the Aveda network wear black.

Here at the Institute of Beauty and Wellness, we are focused on creating timeless beauty looks for our students, guests, and instructors. We do this by incorporating a unison dress code with the ability for individuality to shine through. After all, beauty is all about expressing one’s originality.

Why We Wear Black in the Institute

Why We Wear Black at the Institute of Beauty & Wellness

The short explanation: it’s simple.

Although wearing black is simple, our reasoning is beyond the basics. Not only is it a seamless look for everyone; it is also buildable, expressive, and stylish. The beauty industry is all about trends, and we are the trendsetters. An all-black wardrobe allows us to stay fashion-forward while paving the way for what’s next.

The Importance of Wearing Black

It looks professional. A black attire is sleek and professional in any industry. Our team always get compliments on how professional our students look, so it sets our students up for that expectation while they are in school. Most salons do have some sort of a dress code, so it is also a best practice to start with a dress code as a regular routine.

People who wear black together, stick together. Being unified is important in any team setting, and The Institute of Beauty and Wellness is no different. This helps our team look and feel like one unit, and we are. We pride ourselves on being supportive and inclusive, and wardrobe is the perfect start to that journey.

As you walk our Milwaukee and Madison campuses, you will see that the black dress-code goes farther than just the Institute. Our administration team, corporate leaders, guest services, and salon professionals all incorporate their personal touch on their all-black canvas. We are all unified, creative, and expressive through our fashion pieces. Feel free to mirror the style of your peers or incorporate something new and different and watch others be inspired by you!

Black is Always In

In the beauty industry, black never goes out of style. Whether you’re going to school or working in a salon, all year-round black is an easy transition when the dress code is routine. With most clothing brands incorporating black into their collections year-round; it is easy to shop cute and trendy options at any time. Get your basics down, and let your personality shine through your makeup, accessories, and hair!

Wardrobe Flexibility

Black looks good with any color. It will go well with any piece of accessory, shade of makeup, hair color, nail polish – everything looks good with black.

Creative professionals love being able to spice up their everyday looks. With a neutral color like black, every individual can bring their own sense of style using hair clips, beautiful bangles, and even a chic belt. Your creativity is up to you.

It’s Always About the Client

As a stylist, an all-black wardrobe allows you to take a step back from the spotlight and allow the guests to really see their transformation. As you are doing their hair or makeup, our black attire allows them to focus on their new look. It is always good for the guest to see themselves in the best light, and by wearing a simple black color tone, you allow them to be the center of attention.

It is important that the service is focused on the client.  As a student and future professional, we start your experience-driving behaviors to better serve our guests and prepare you for your future.

Stains are Afraid of Black Clothing

Black is also the best option for beauty industry attire in case you happen to get anything on your clothing. We’ve been there, hair color rubs on your top or a dollop of the exfoliating mask drops on your pants. Thankfully black tends to hide stains very well, so it’s great for students who are learning.

Should anything happen, we have tips and tricks to save your clothing. When in a pinch, we always have permanent markers on hand. Yes, a permanent marker! It works wonders to mask any stain. You might be used to having a Tide Pen on hand to remove stains, but with black as your staple wardrobe color, markers will become just as valuable!

A-ha! or Blah

When you wear black often, it may get boring or unimaginative, but everyone in the industry starts to see it as a creative challenge rather than a burden. You can mix black fabrics, layer your pieces, and style black shoes and different accessories to add a punch to the look. The most colorful personalities wear all black, so wear your all-black outfits with confidence!

Your All-Black Wardrobe Just Became an Asset

If you are already rocking an all-black wardrobe, your transition into beauty will be easy. If not, no need to worry. Feel free to express your new style through observing staff on your official visit, future classmates, Instagram explore pages, Pinterest, or from everyday individuals.  Creativity, as we know, comes from everywhere. If you have a passion for beauty and are not afraid of a little creativity, click the button below to learn more about the world of beauty and our programs.
