Density. Texture. Length. These are the three most important factors in achieving a perfect haircut, according to Jon Reyman. Density, meaning how much hair on the head. Texture, meaning the amount of wave, curl, or lack thereof. Length, meaning both base length and dimension length.
Today, I experienced that density and length can be altered with a haircut. Whereas, texture is all about the styling products. Jon focused on teaching the students at Aveda Institute Madison modern, soft, styles that broke the barriers of basic haircutting. We learned how to transform an everyday cut into a modern take away that is used by only top hair stylists.
In the past, I have learned to cut wet hair, but check my work on dry hair. Jon showed us that this way of cutting can bring out many flaws. Dry cutting is the technique Jon prefers to use. He opened our eyes to the benefits of not having to recheck our work again and again. Cutting dry is a much more efficient way to perfect a haircut.
I really enjoyed learning from Jon Reyman. I cannot wait for use the techniques I learned from Jon both in school and in the salon after graduating. I look forward to taking one of Jon’s cutting classes in the near future.
