11 Mar Sally Rogerson on Women’s Haircutting, Cosmetology Curriculum and More
Stylist and salon educator Sally Rogerson visited The Institute of Beauty and Wellness in February for a training on women’s haircutting. Sally Rogerson is the founder and creative director of Sally Rogerson Education (S•R Education). S•R Education offers classes and teacher trainings to cosmetology students and salon professionals across the globe. The Institute of Beauty and Wellness uses training modules from S•R Education in our cosmetology course curriculum.
Before starting S•R Education, Sally worked for 20 years at Vidal Sassoon as a platform artist and educator. She started her career with the company at the age of 16. There, Sally worked her way through the ranks, becoming creative director at the Vidal Sassoon Academy, London, and later the senior creative director at the Vidal Sassoon Academy, Los Angeles. During her tenure with Vidal Sassoon, Sally created trends in editorial shoots and mentored many influential hair designers including Jeremy Todd Abraham, whose resume consists of working backstage at LA Fashion Week and Dolce and Gabanna’s show. Today, in her role as creative director at S•R Education, Sally continues to inspire hairdressers around the world through her training programs and classes.
We got to sit down with Sally while she was in our space to learn more about her career and interests. (Watch to find out the hair trend Sally Rogerson wants to see die!)
Sally has a passion for inspiring hairdressers through education and working with cosmetology students. She enjoys the challenge of teaching different people the same subject and being in a classroom full of people who really want to learn.
“I love working with students because you get that energy,” Sally said.
Sally’s passion for education lives on outside her guest trainings. The Institute of Beauty and Wellness incorporates Sally’s Theory of Haircutting in the advanced phase of our cosmetology curriculum. This module builds on what students learn earlier in their program about the anatomy of a haircut. Theory of Haircutting teaches students to view the head as a canvas and shows them how to map out sections of the skull. People have unique face and head shapes that require different techniques to achieve the right look. Students learn how to analyze bone structure and identify the techniques needed to achieve the desired look on different people. The module also highlights the intersection of cut and color, and how to create harmony between the two for a balanced and beautifully completed look.
Sally’s Theory of Haircutting, as part of our well-rounded cosmetology curriculum, trains students to think critically about haircutting. Our cosmetology program teaches students how to give clients the styles they want, customized to their individual features, to help them become successful hairdressers.
