Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN EDUCATOR AT THE INSTITUTE OF BEAUTY AND WELLNESS? WHAT PROGRAMS DO YOU TEACH?
GAYA: Going on 16 years in August 2016. I lead the Cosmetology/Barbering Programs. I started the cosmetology program alongside owner, Susan Haise, in 2000. The school and programs are very special to me.
Q: WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING PART OF BEING AN EDUCATOR?
GAYA: The ability to help someone not only develop the technical skills necessary, but also the soft skills and personal development that it takes to be successful in this industry. Watching the transformations happen right before your eyes is beyond rewarding.
Q: IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS THE BIGGEST POINT OF DIFFERENCE THE INSTITUTE OF BEAUTY AND WELLNESS OFFERS?
GAYA: The passion that our educators have to impact lives not just to teach the techniques. They also have a huge passion for the craft and our industry as a whole.
Q: WHAT IS ONE OF THE MOST FUN EXPERIENCES YOU HAVE HAD AT IBW?
GAYA: There are many… But, being given the opportunity to travel to London with our school owner, Susan Haise, and train at the AVEDA Advanced Academy doing cut and color models with Aveda’s Global educators was an amazing experience. I will treasure it forever.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE CONSIDERING THE BEAUTY OR WELLNESS INDUSTRY AS A CAREER OPTION?
GAYA: Don’t think twice- GO FOR IT! There is no other industry that offers so many career-pathing opportunities. It is a career that you truly can make anything happen and achieve any level of success you desire. If you are willing to work hard, anything is possible!
