23 May Instructor Spotlight – KateReading Time: 2 minutes
The instructor spotlight is a monthly Q&A blog piece that focuses on why the instructor loves teaching at the Institute of Beauty and Wellness, advice about joining the industry, and more.
Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN EDUCATOR AT THE INSTITUTE OF BEAUTY AND WELLNESS?
Q: WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING PART OF BEING AN EDUCATOR?
KATE: So many things! No two days are the same. I love connecting with students, teaching them about skin care and wellness so they have more knowledge on how to balance both their lives as well as their guests. Teaching provides a positive, daily challenge in which you strive to be the best version of yourself, face your fears, and assist in inspiring your students with your team of fellow instructors. I learn from students just as much as they learn from me.
Q: IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS THE BIGGEST POINT OF DIFFERENCE THE INSTITUTE OF BEAUTY AND WELLNESS OFFERS?
KATE: IBW provides an outstanding experience for students at all levels. Level of instruction, space, location, devotion of staff guest educators, variety of programs…there is a lot of heart in this building.
Q: WHAT IS ONE OF THE MOST FUN EXPERIENCES YOU HAVE HAD AT IBW?
KATE: The moving process from the old building to the new building that IBW is currently in. It was a lot of work but being a part of that was a unique and great bonding experience with fellow coworkers.
Q: DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE CONSIDERING THE BEAUTY OR WELLNESS INDUSTRY AS A CAREER OPTION?
KATE: Take care of yourself as best you can first before assisting others with wellness. Seek being grounded and maintain a positive energy.
Q: WHAT IS Y OUR FAVORITE AVEDA PRODUCT?
KATE: So many to choose from…I am going to have to go with an oldie but a goodie – Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion. I love the texture and the aroma and always leaves the skin with a radiant, dewy glow.
Q: WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO HANG OUT IN MILWAUKEE?
KATE: Brady Street! Brady St. is my neighborhood and have loved hanging out there for years. Great places to eat and meet people from all walks of life. It is never a dull moment and can’t wait for another summer on Brady St.
