On Tuesday, November 18th the Aveda Institute in Madison will be welcoming international runway hairstylist, Nicholas French.

An expert in his craft, Nicholas French is one of the most highly sought-after and renowned artists in the hair industry today. He is a world traveler, educator and a multi-award winning artist.

Nicholas has produced more than 1,500 energy-packed educational shows for professional hairdressers across 13 countries. His glamorous designs and groundbreaking innovations have dubbed him the Avant Garde Guru.

One of Nicholas’ greatest sources of pride is mentoring his fellow stylists to explore and perfect their artistry.  “I know how to do everything.  The nitty-gritty is to get out to the people and help them be better hairdressers.  My mission now is to develop teams of young hairdressers –to bring them to the edge and convince them that if they jump, they will actually fly.”

After losing his mother to leukemia, Nicholas became heavily involved in the Alternative Hair Shows. For 10 consecutive years Nicholas produced these hair shows to raise money for leukemia research and in an interview with, Nicholas said this is one of his proudest professional moments.

Nicholas’ skill set is diverse. He is a master of cutting, finishing, dress work, long hair, runway shows, trade shows, seminars, motivational speaking and is a well-known inventor.

Beyond his educational shows, Nicholas’ designs have appeared on the cover of magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Oprah and ELLE.

As far as his list of awards, Nicholas’s resume is extensive. He has won the North American Hairstylist of the Year Award for Avant Garde three times and has been nominated nine times. He’s been voted the Number 1 Platform Artist of the Year by Beauty Entertainment Magazine and has been a finalist for British Hairdressing Awards three times.

The last time Nicholas spoke at The Institute of Beauty and Wellness in Milwaukee he brought with him couture gowns and put on a full fashion show with the students as models. We are really looking forward to his visit and to see what he has in store.
