Current student Jeanna Ray made a big life change when she decided to enroll in our Ayurveda Esthetic program at The Institute of Beauty and Wellness. Not only did she make a huge career change, she also had to relocate almost 900 miles from her home town in Virginia. Our unique 1000-hour Ayurveda Esthetic program incorporates training in esthiology along with the ancient Indian healing practices of Ayurveda; balancing the mind, body, and spirit.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your background. What did you do prior to attending Aveda IBW?
A: My previous experience is in digital and online strategy, communication, and marketing. I have worked in the corporate world for 15 years.
Q: What motivated you to enroll at IBW?
A: I discovered IBW through an online search and immediately knew it was the right place for me. There are only a few Ayurveda programs throughout the U.S., but IBW was the only one that offered Ayurveda and Esthetics. Furthermore, my visit to IBW was the true motivation! The level of service I received as a prospective student was remarkable. It was definitely something to learn from and now I aspire to provide that same level of service. Also, I was able to receive assistance from the admissions department regarding licensure and state requirements. I can’t imagine not being motivated to enroll after that!
Q: Has your family been supportive of your decision to relocate and attend school?
A: My family has been very supportive. The distance is tough, but they are still cheering me on.
Q: What has been the best part of your program so far?
A: The program is amazing! I’ve enjoyed learning about the science and practices of Ayurveda. Our curriculum, our teachers, and the hands-on clinic experience all have surpassed my expectations, and I do like Milwaukee as well!
Q: Where do you see yourself after graduation?
A: In the future, I would like to have my own business as well as teach. I hope that I am an innovator and an ambassador for the profession, skincare and wellness, and doing what you love.
Q: What is the one piece of advice you would give to others thinking about making a career change or going back to school?
A: Visit as many programs as you can, ask plenty of questions, and make sure you find the best program for you and your new journey.
Q: What is your favorite AVEDA product? Any tips on how to use it?
A: It’s Vata season, y’all! I love Intense Hydrating Rich Crème to fight the cold, hard, dryness of the winter season. Don’t forget the hydrating treatment lotion or toning mist before!
Q: Any other thoughts/comments on your program at IBW?
A: I am confident in the top-level education I am getting. IBW is hands down the best of all the schools I researched. The Ayurveda Esthetic program is the only one like it. I love the whole experience and my classmates rock! Best decision I ever made.
