We reached out to one of our students to write a blog piece about her experience working with celebrity stylist, Mary Brunetti.

The Aveda Institute Madison had the honor of welcoming Mary Brunetti to demonstrate new trends in hairstyling. With her strong background in editorial, she was the first woman named North American Hairstylist of the year through NAHA, has been published in many national magazines, and has styled celebrities such as Mariska Hargitay, Eva Longoria, Carrie Underwood, and many more.
During her visit to Aveda Madison, she demonstrated editorial trends and how to make them everyday guest-friendly. To start, Mary took the Air Control Hairspray to spray each section before curling and setting the hair. With the hair prepped, she was able to style the hair into four looks; Hollywood finger waves, braided chignon, slicked back bob with long hair, and then a perfect ponytail into a wedding up-do.
She then proceeded to take the next model and transitioned her haircut into the ‘lob’ (long bob) trend. Her best advice for haircutting was to always start in the front. You are able to then agree on a length and never have too much taken off. She added low face framing and square layers to give the hair a messy feel. Mary went step by step on how to blow dry beach waves in the hair rather than curling it for saving time in the salon. To finish it off, she disconnected a few parts of the hair for more body and character.
Mary Brunetti has gotten where she is now with hard work, passion and motivation. This is made clear by her way of communicating her talents to others and motivating them to pursue their dreams. It was beneficial to have Mary visit Aveda Madison today and she will always be welcomed back with open arms, from the students and staff.
