21 Dec Massage Student Spotlight: Hilary
We are thrilled to feature Massage Therapy Student, Hilary in this month’s student spotlight. Read our Q&A with Hilary below. #MajorInMassage
Q: WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO ENROLL AT THE INSTITUTE OF BEAUTY AND WELLNESS?
HILARY: I always had followed the path that was set for me. After high school, I attended college and received my bachelors degree in criminal justice. While following that path, I learned so much about myself and so many valuable lessons and I will always be grateful. However, I wasn’t very happy. I decided to step out of my comfort zone to pursue my true passion. My family was very supportive and after asking around about schools in the area, multiple individuals told me to attend IBW. I am very happy with my choice.
Q: WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING THING YOU HAVE LEARNED SO FAR IN YOUR PROGRAM?
HILARY: The most exciting thing I have learned so far in my program would be the Deep Tissue Massage. I love it. It is slow and specific work which allows you to feel muscles in a way you wouldn’t be able to feel while doing Swedish massage.
Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AFTER GRADUATION?
HILARY: I see myself working full time at a spa. I would love to gain more knowledge and experience with sports massage. Becoming a massage therapist for a professional sports team would be my dream job. I also would love to be a massage instructor someday.
Q: WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS THINKING ABOUT COMING TO IBW?
HILARY: Make sure you really want to be a part of one of these programs. The programs are intense and require a lot of work. With that being said, if you are passionate about what you are doing, the work will not seem that daunting.
HILARY: My favorite AVEDA product is the Foot Relief. I love the aroma and I love how smooth my feet are after using it. I do not think that people take enough care of their feet, and the Foot Relief makes caring for your feet so easy!
Q: ANY OTHER COMMENTS/THOUGHTS ON YOUR PROGRAM AT IBW?
HILARY: The Massage Therapy Program is great. It is a lot of work and there is a lot of information to learn, but it is really fascinating. Be prepared to learn all about Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathologies!! The instructors are very enthusiastic and passionate which makes learning easy and fun. I would tell anyone who is interested in Massage Therapy School to check out IBW.
